"The dark watercolor surface of the painting is a tangled relationship of washes, lifts, and stains. I am interested in allowing structures to emerge from the accumulation of marks.Across the top of the painting is an embedded system called a cellular automata. These systems often have emergent collective behavior, or behavior where multiple simple things, acting in an interconnected way, can create spontaneous and complex outcomes. While these computational ideas have broad application, they are particularly useful for understanding ecologic relationships and emergent natural structures. "

”In this photo, the Warrior is literally made from the feathers’ shadow. To me, the Warrior appears to be African and is adorned with feathers. I imagine him as being very connected to nature in daily life.The shadow image is projected onto a piece of wooden furniture, which speaks to our modern, complex relationships with nature.”

”Tree I Couldn't See is the last image in a series of eight trees. I could not visit my parents during the pandemic which was when I created these artworks. This image shows the leaves and branches from a Japanese Maple, but not the tree, in their front yard. I created this piece in its memory from old prints that I cut and glued into an image that works as both a reclaimed print and a flat sculpture.”
